Franchesca Ulloa
As a recent graduate of Ohio State University's Korean B.A. program, I am now continuing to pursue my academic interests, Hallyu, as a graduate student in Berkeley's Asian Studies M.A. program. My previous project looked at the impact captions that are produced for Korean variety entertainment shows and YouTube, collecting the quantitative information and attempting to find commonalities between the platforms and their aesthetics and purposes. Building on this history of variety shows, my current research interests lie in both music and dramas, with my current project relating to contracts in the music industry.
Outside of my academic pursuits, I volunteer with Otakorp Inc., an organization that hosts one of the largest East Asian conventions on the East Coast, as an Korean-English interpreter. In my free time I enjoy immersing myself in Korean language materials and producing my own media content that I hope to one day share with the world.
